A third of Britons prefer to do banking in person, with online and app banking also having a strong following.

Key Highlights :

1. A third of people in the UK would rather do all their banking in person, a survey has found.
2. This preference for in-person banking is not just limited to the older generations, with a fifth of 18 to 34-year-olds preferring to do all their banking in person.
3. Because of the closures of many local bank branches, people are increasingly turning to the Post Office to do their banking.
4. While many people still want the option to visit a branch, there is a concern among some about the security and stability of digital banking.

People would rather visit a bank branch to seek human advice as cost pressures mount, a survey found.

The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive for the American Bankers Association, found that 43 percent of respondents would rather visit a bank branch to seek advice about their finances, compared to just 27 percent who would turn to the internet.

The survey also found that cost is the key factor that is motivating people to seek human advice over the internet. Sixty-four percent of respondents said that they are more likely to seek advice from a bank because it is cheaper, while just 27 percent said they would go to the internet for advice if it were free.

“The cost of financial advice is a major concern for consumers,” said ABA president and CEO Beth Mooney. “Many are looking for ways to save money and get the best advice for their individual needs. Banks are committed to providing affordable, quality advice that can help people achieve their financial goals.”

The survey was conducted online among 1,000 adults in the U.S. between Feb. 22 and Feb. 25, 2013.
