An inspirational mum has shed 10.5 stone in a mission to get herself as fit as possible before an inherited disorder robs her of her mobility.

Karen Jenkins, from Essex, was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease in 2016, which affects her mobility and causes her to lose weight.

Karen, who is a mum-of-one, started her weight loss journey in January 2017, and has since lost a total of 10.5 stone (57kg).

She has now set her sights on reaching her target weight of 12 stone (60kg), and has started a blog to document her journey.

Karen said: “I’ve always been a bit of a weight watcher, but I didn’t realise how bad my weight was until I was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

“I was told that I had the disease and that it would eventually take my mobility away. I was so shocked and didn’t know what to do.

“I started my weight loss journey in January 2017 and I’ve lost a total of 10.5 stone (57kg). I’m really pleased with how I’ve done, but I know I have a lot more to lose.

“I’m now aiming to reach my target weight of 12 stone (60kg), and I’ve started a blog to document my journey. I hope that my story can help other people who are going through a tough time.”

Karen’s blog, which is called ‘Mission: Fit and Mobility’, has already received a lot of positive feedback, with people praising her for her determination.

One reader, who named herself ‘Natalie’, said: “Karen has inspired me, and I’ve been following her journey since she started it.

“She’s done an amazing job of losing weight and I think she’s going to be a real inspiration to other people with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.”

Karen’s story is just one of the many inspiring examples of people who have overcome adversity to achieve success.

If you’re going through a tough time, don’t give up – there’s always a way out.
