The Tour of Flanders is the biggest one day race of the year, and it’s always a spectacular event. This year was no exception. Cyclingnews went behind the scenes at the race and talked to riders, staff and organizers about what makes it so special.
We started the day by talking to Tom Boonen, the reigning champion and one of the most popular riders in the world. Boonen is known for his explosiveness on the bike, and he showed that again on the opening stages of the race. He was the first rider across the line in Oudenaarde, and he was followed by his teammate Niki Terpstra.
The race continued with a number of attacks, but it was Boonen who was always able to respond. He was in the front group for most of the day, and he was able to stay there until the end. He finished the day in a strong position, and he’s now looking forward to the final stages of the race.
Boonen is one of the stars of the Tour of Flanders, but he’s not the only one who’s worth watching. The race is also a great opportunity to see some of the biggest names in cycling. This year, that included riders like Fabian Cancellara, Peter Sagan and Niki Terpstra. Cancellara was the first rider across the line in Oudenaarde, and he was followed by Sagan and Terpstra.
The final stages of the race are always exciting, and this year was no exception. There were a number of big attacks, and it was hard to predict who would be able to stay in the front group. In the end, it was Sagan who was able to do that. He finished the day in a strong position, and he’s now looking forward to the final stages of the race.
