Kaizer Chiefs get back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with 1-0 win against Chippa United

As the resumption set in, Chiefs had a golden chance through a first-time shot in the box by Ashley Du Preez following Basomboli’s knockdown but hoofed. Chiefs pushed again minutes later where Basomboli’s good work again saw a cutback at the half-way line release Maart on goal but the host tracked back and smothered. The Amakhosi eventually made their dominance count in the last 20 minutes when Du Preez brought Frosler’s long pass under control and applied a few step-overs before curling in the far corner.

Arthur Zwane’s men made five changes after their loss to Sekhukhune United, with Happy Mashiane, Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti, Siyethemba Sithebe and Mduduzi Shabalala entering the starting lineup.

     The Glamour Boys enjoyed a confident start, with Christian Saile Basomboli heading in a shot that forced goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua into a teasing save. The host began to show courage after the tough opening and caused the Soweto giants issues when Meshack Maphangule launched a low shot from a cutback, only for Brandon Peterson to save.

     Chiefs went close again on the cusp of halftime with a curling shot from a short-corner by Reeve Frosler, but Kazapua tipped away. As the resumption set in, Chiefs had a golden chance through a first-time shot in the box by Ashley Du Preez following Basomboli’s knockdown, but it was hoofed.

With Chippa searching for the leveller closer to full-time, the host had the ball in the net from a corner in the dying seconds but it was disallowed for an infringement and saw the Amakhosi claim victory.

     Kaizer Chiefs' victory was a much-needed one after their loss to Sekhukhune United, and the team will be looking to build on the momentum in their next match. The win also sees them move up the table to second place in the DStv Premiership standings, four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

     The Amakhosi now have a week off before they take on Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on the 21st of November. With the team looking to continue their winning streak, the match will be a crucial one for Zwane and his men as they look to keep up the pace with Sundowns at the top of the table.
