Jon Rahm captured the biggest win of his career at the Masters on Sunday and said he felt the presence of his idol, the late Seve Ballesteros, helping pull him through. Rahm, who is from Barcelona, Spain, was one shot away from becoming the first Spaniard to win a major championship.

"I was feeling the pressure," Rahm said after his victory. "I was feeling the presence of Seve. I was feeling his energy. I was feeling his love. And it was just a huge help."

Rahm, who was playing in his first major championship, shot a final-round 66 to take the title by one shot over Adam Scott. The 26-year-old Rahm, who finished at 18-under 268, became the first Spaniard to win a major championship, and the first player from outside the United States to win a major since Phil Mickelson in 2005.

"I feel very emotional," Rahm said. "I can't believe it. This is a dream come true."

Rahm, who was the runner-up at the PGA Championship last month, became the first player to win two tournaments in a row since Tiger Woods in 2008.

"He played great," Scott said. "He was just a little bit better today."

Rahm, who was born in Barcelona and raised in the Spanish city of Girona, said he was motivated to win by the memory of Ballesteros, who died in 2015 at the age of 56.

"He was my idol," Rahm said. "He was one of the best players in the world. I was just trying to do my best like he did."

Ballesteros, who won five major championships, was known for his powerful drives and accurate iron play. Rahm said he was inspired by Ballesteros' approach to the game.

"He was just a very simple guy," Rahm said. "But he was one of the best players in the world. He was just so consistent. He never missed a shot. He was just a machine. And I just tried to do my best like he did."
