Take Note of Changes to Bank Holiday Benefits Payments
Key Highlights :
With the upcoming King's Coronation bank holiday weekend, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that there will be changes to the date people receive their benefits payments. Scheduled payments due on the May Day bank holiday next Monday will arrive in bank accounts this Friday, April 28. Payments from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) such as Child Benefit and Tax Credits will also arrive early, DWP confirmed.
May will see three bank holidays which are set to fall on May 1 for May Day, May 8 for the King's Coronation and May 29 for Spring. As a result, people are being urged to take note of any changes for scheduled payments including State Pension, Universal Credit and Carer’s Allowance.
The DWP has also said that Jobcentre Plus opening times are different on May 1 and May 8 as on both of these days, offices and phone lines will be closed, meaning payments due on May 8 will arrive on May 5.
The bank holiday immediately after the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday, May 6, has been set aside for volunteering and is being billed as ‘the big help out’. It has been organised by The Together Coalition and partners The Scouts, the Royal Voluntary Service and faith groups from across the UK. It aims to highlight the positive impact volunteering has on communities.
To make sure people get their payment on a day when Jobcentre Plus offices are open, some payments will be paid early. Payments affected by the changes include Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Pension Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), State Pension and Universal Credit.
HMRC payments due to be made on Monday, May 1 will be paid on Friday April 28 and payments due on Monday, May 8, will be paid on Friday, May 5, 2023. Payments affected by this change include Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance.
It is important to be aware of the changes to bank holiday benefits payments and to plan accordingly. If the expected payment date is not shown, people will get their money on their usual payment date. The DWP is urging people to take note of any changes to scheduled payments and to plan ahead to ensure they get their money on time.
