If you’ve been wondering why Din and Grogu have been taking a relative backseat to Bo-Katan and other Mandalorians this season on The Mandalorian, well, it appears that’s by design, and the original mission of the show, the Young Wolf and Cub set-up of Mando and Baby Yoda, is coming back into play.
According to showrunner Dave Filoni, the original goal of The Mandalorian was to focus on the young characters of Mando and Yoda and see how they would develop. However, Filoni says that the show has evolved and the young characters are now taking a backseat to Bo-Katan and the other Mandalorians.
“The Mandalorian was always supposed to be about the younglings, and I think we’ve done a really good job of exploring that,” Filoni said. “But now it feels like it’s time for Bo-Katan and the others to take the spotlight for a little while.”
This change was likely made to give the young characters more development and to give the show a new direction. Filoni says that the show is still about the Mandalorians, but the focus is now on their internal struggles.
“The Mandalorian is still a show about the Mandalorians, but it’s also about the Mando’a and the Mandalorian culture,” Filoni said. “The Mandalorians are at war with each other, and that’s going to be a big part of the show moving forward.”
