The Little Mermaid director, Ron Clements, has spoken out about the British superstar, Cate Blanchett, who he says is not interested in taking on a new musical project. Clements revealed that the Oscar-winner is not keen on tackling a new musical, despite being offered the role in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

"She's not interested in doing a musical," Clements told The Hollywood Reporter. "She's a great actress and she's done a lot of great work, but she's not interested in doing a musical. I was really disappointed, because I really wanted her to do it."

Clements is the director who brought Blanchett to international fame with her Oscar-winning performance in The Aviator. The Little Mermaid is her first major project since then, and Clements says he was hopeful that she would be interested in taking on the role.

"I thought she would be perfect for it," he said. "But she's not interested. So that's disappointing."

The Little Mermaid is set to be released in 2019, and it is unclear whether Blanchett will be available to film the project at that time. Clements says that he is still in talks with Disney about the project, and he is hopeful that the actress will change her mind.

"I'm still in discussions with Disney about it," he said. "I hope so. She's a great actress, and I think she would be perfect for the part."

If Blanchett does not take on the role, Clements says that he is open to casting another British actress in the role. He says that he is not ruling out the possibility of casting Emma Thompson or Judi Dench in the role, and he is hopeful that the actresses will be interested in the project.

"I would love to see either one of those actresses do it," he said. "They're both fantastic actresses."

Clements says that he is also open to casting a non-British actress in the role, and he is hopeful that a female actor will be interested in the project. He says that he is not ruling out the possibility of casting a transgender actress in the role, and he is hopeful that the actress will be interested in the project.

"I'm open to casting a transgender actress in the role," he said. "I think that would be really interesting. It's something that I haven't seen before, so I'm curious to see how people would react to that."
