Islanders are being warned of further ferry cancellations as Scotland's national operator continues to face a shortage of vessels.

The Scottish Government has announced that further ferry cancellations are likely as a result of the shortage of vessels. The operator, Caledonian MacBrayne, has warned that it may be forced to cancel up to 20% of its services in the coming weeks.

The company has already cancelled around 50% of its services this year, blaming the shortage of vessels on the Scottish Government's decision to restrict the number of new boats being built. The restrictions were introduced in order to save the Scottish Government £100 million.
