ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday named a three-member committee under Jamaat-e-Islami’s ‘consensus initiative’ to engage with other parties so as to end the prevailing political deadlock in the country.
The committee, headed by PTI’s Mian Mehmoodur Rehman, will include representatives of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and the Jamaat-e-Islami.
The committee will meet for the first time on Monday to discuss the modalities of the consensus initiative.
Speaking to reporters after naming the committee, PTI chairman Imran Khan said that his party was committed to ending the political stalemate in the country.
“The PTI is committed to ending the political stalemate in the country and has appointed a three-member committee under the consensus initiative of Jamaat-e-Islami to engage with other parties,” he said.
He said that the committee would work towards finding a consensus solution to the country’s problems.
Khan said that his party was in favour of holding elections as soon as possible.
“We are in favour of holding elections as soon as possible. We are also in favour of a coalition government,” he said.
Khan said that the committee would also work on improving the economy and creating jobs.
