Key Highlights :
Former communication in-charge of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Vijay Nair, allegedly tried to impress K. Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), in the Delhi excise policy case in order to gain her trust and generate kickbacks. This is according to a charge sheet released by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which quoted another accused Buchi Babu, former Chartered Accountant (CA) of Kavitha.
The charge sheet further revealed that Nair was trying to impress Kavitha with his ability to influence the Delhi excise policy on behalf of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. According to Buchi Babu, Nair had sent a message to Arun Pillai and him in March 2021, which showed that he was getting changes added to the Group of Ministers (GoM) report.
The ED charge sheet also mentioned AAP MP Raghav Chadha in connection with the case. The ED's investigation revealed that Nair, Arun Pillai, and Abhishek had connected with Nair and Sameer Mahandru on a Zoom call in Delhi in March 2021 regarding the business opportunities in the upcoming Delhi excise policy.
The understanding between Kavitha and Kejriwal and Sisodia was that in exchange for the favors that could be done in the policy and Delhi liquor business, some funds would be given to the AAP. Buchi Babu stated that he was only giving his services as a professional and understanding the business opportunities on her behalf along with Arun Pillai.
In June 2021, Buchi Babu, Arun Pillai, and Abhishek met with Nair and businessman Dinesh Arora at ITC Kohenoor in Hyderabad to discuss various issues pertaining to South Group's engagement in the Delhi liquor business, proposals, etc.
The ED's investigation into the Delhi excise policy case has revealed a conspiracy by big leaders of the AAP, BRS leader Kavitha, and YSRCP MP. The ED has now revealed Nair's attempt to impress Kavitha in order to gain her trust and generate kickbacks. This case is a clear example of how politicians and business leaders can use their influence to gain personal benefits.
