The Met Gala is the most prestigious event in the fashion world, and it’s no wonder why. Organized by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the yearly event draws the biggest names in the entertainment industry, and it’s no surprise that getting an invite is a highly sought-after honor. With a hefty fee of $30,000 to $50,000 and a strict dress code, the Met Gala is not for the faint of heart.
Pop star Lizzo recently opened up about her experiences at the annual Met Gala, and it wasn’t all good. The Good As Hell singer spoke about “long queues” at the event, and slammed waiters who were being “really stingy” with liquor during the event. “There’s a long f***ing line,” she fumed. “I’m taking the glamour away from it but it’s true. You’ve gotta wait. So you’re waiting and that’s the hardest part. I was sweating in a big-ass coat, my feet were hurting.”
Once she got inside the event, Lizzo recalled being offered only red or white wine as an alcohol choice. She said: “They were being really stingy with the liquor that night. He was like, ‘Red or white wine?’ and I was like, ‘Tequila! Do you know what I’ve been through? Do you know how many hours I’ve been in this corset? How long I’ve been in these damn shoes? Tequila!’”
Lizzo also planned to serenade photographers with her custom $55,000 flute, but was ultimately heckled by them, as they claimed she was “putting us to sleep.”
Despite her unlucky evening, Lizzo looks back on her time at the Met as her personal “prom.” “This is like prom for celebrities . . . My prom f***ing sucked,” she laughed. “Now I feel like the Grammys and the Met Ball, they’re like my prom.”
