5. This recognition highlights Hyundai Steel's contribution to a low-carbon society.

Hyundai Steel has become the first company in the domestic steel industry to receive an environmental product declaration (EPD) certification from the Ministry of Environment for its low-carbon H-beam. This certification adds to Hyundai Steel's existing portfolio of 13 EPD-certified products, and highlights the company's commitment to contributing to a low-carbon society.

The EPD certification is given to products that demonstrate lower carbon emissions than similar products. Hyundai Steel's H-beams are produced using electric furnace methods, utilizing recycled iron scrap. The EPD verifies that the products produced through blast furnace processes are eco-friendly compared to similar products.

Hyundai Steel has also established a production system for ultra-high-strength H-beams (460MPa), offering approximately 1.3 times greater strength than existing products. This innovation allows for reduced steel weight, resulting in cost savings and shorter construction periods, while maintaining low carbon emissions.

Low-carbon products fall under the "green products" category adopted by the Ministry of Environment. The use of low-carbon product materials in residential and non-residential buildings can earn additional points in the Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design (G-SEED) program, which evaluates the environmental performance of buildings. Buildings rated higher than the excellent grade in the G-SEED program receive benefits such as reduced acquisition taxes.

To further demonstrate its commitment to transitioning to a low-carbon production system based on blast furnaces and electric furnaces, Hyundai Steel recently unveiled its Carbon Neutrality 2050 roadmap. This roadmap outlines the company's plans to reduce carbon emissions and seize opportunities in the global low-carbon market.

Hyundai Steel's EPD certification for its low-carbon H-beam is a major step forward in the company's efforts to lead the way in ESG management. This certification showcases Hyundai Steel's specific electric furnace technology and capabilities, and will help the company to achieve its goal of becoming a leader in the global low-carbon market.
