Nearly five decades after The Muppet Show debuted, The Muppets Mayhem — a new 10-episode Disney+ series — is set to give fans a peek behind the music

Current World Trends

Key Highlights :

1. The Electric Mayhem is a band of Muppets who have been featured in popular music over the years.
2. The show is about their attempt to write and record new music.
3. The human characters are mostly forgettable and the plot is predictable.
4. The Electric Mayhem's main goal is to have fun.
5. The Electric Mayhem's best moments are when they explore age-old Muppet themes.

The most delightful part of The Muppets Mayhem is getting to know these loveable misfits beyond their usual brief background appearances. We learn Animal’s surprising backstory, delve into Janice’s hippie point of view, and discover the reason why Dr. Teeth is named Dr. Teeth. Even the less dynamic characters get a bit more depth, and without Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, or other more famous Muppets around to drive the plot, the show is able to focus on the Electric Mayhem.

In addition to the Muppets, there are several human characters, including Nora’s younger sister, Hannah (Saara Chaudry), a popular influencer; Nora’s ex-flame, JJ (Anders Holm), who hopes to woo Nora back with the slick new image he’s cultivated to go with his successful music app; and the affable Moog (Tahj Mowery), the Mayhem’s number-one fan. While these characters aren’t as dynamic as the Muppets, they are necessary to bring some shape to the Mayhem’s rock n’ roll circus.

The Muppets Mayhem is filled with nostalgic tunes, both covers and new songs, and also features a slew of celebrity cameos. While some of these drop-ins are clever and effective, others feel unnecessary and distracting. The show also attempts to mine humour from the Electric Mayhem’s stumbling embrace of the modern world, with a special emphasis on the impact social media has on their lives.

Overall, The Muppets Mayhem is a lightweight but entertaining peek behind the music of the Electric Mayhem. It’s filled with fun songs, nostalgic cameos, and plenty of chaos, and also explores age-old Muppet themes, such as the importance of honesty, believing in yourself, and facing life’s many speed bumps with the support of those who know and love you the most. The Muppets Mayhem hits Disney+ on May 10.
