Pitso Mosimane's Views on Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants' Progression to the Semi-Finals of Africa's Elite Club Competitions
Key Highlights :
Two-time CAF Champions League-winning coach Pitso Mosimane has shared his views on Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants' progression to the semi-finals of Africa's elite club competitions. Both Downs and Gallants progressed to the last four of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup by beating CR Belouizdad and Pyramids FC respectively.
Having won it with both Sundowns and Al Ahly in the past, Mosimane, who is now in charge of Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ahli Jeddah has commented on the clubs' progress so far. “SA Football style of play, is just awkward for North African teams, especially when the teams play with controlled arrogance and confidence. SA teams have won continental trophies before and will continue to do so. Anybody underestimating them, will be at their own peril. They won’t stop surprising. Viva SA football,” he tweeted.
Mosimane has also tipped both teams to go all the way in this year's competitions. “SA teams do lose some games, and it is normal in football, but now is the time that there should be an understanding and believe that it is doable. 2023 is the Year!”
Sundowns will face Wydad Casablanca in the Champions League semi-final, while Gallants will take on Young Africans from Tanzania in the Confederations Cup. Mosimane is confident that both teams have what it takes to go all the way and win the competitions. He believes that the South African style of play is awkward for North African teams and that this will give the South African teams an edge in the competition.
He also believes that South African teams have the ability to surprise their opponents and that 2023 could be the year that South African teams finally lift the trophy. Mosimane is sure that both teams have the potential to go all the way and that they should be taken seriously by their opponents.
It will definitely be an exciting semi-final stage of the competition, with both teams having the potential to go all the way. With the experience of Mosimane behind them, it is sure to be an interesting ride for both Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants.
