The Thompson family's Dream Home: Exploring the Quirks and Characteristics of Laughton Hall
Key Highlights :
The Thompson family moved from Sheffield to Lincolnshire last May to fulfil their dream of living in an 18th century seven-bed residence nestled in the Lincolnshire countryside. After falling in love with Laughton Hall, a Grade II-listed property which dates back to 1734, the family of four have spent the past year enjoying the stunning views, lovingly renovated interior and abundance of character the home has to offer.
But due to family circumstances, Karlie and her family have had to put the £1.2m home back on the market as they prepare to relocate back to Sheffield. Karlie told Grimsby Live: “We absolutely fell in love with the property when we came to view it last May. I want it to go to somebody who loves the history and the back story to this place as much as we did. You drive up the gravel driveway and it's absolutely breathtaking, it seems to glow gold, it's such a warm house, it's absolutely idyllic. It's got all that character and it's a listed building. We moved from a three-bed semi in Sheffield, so it was really quite daunting at first, but it's so well done in terms of how the history has been maintained in it.”
The home is packed full of unique features, including the original servants' quarters on the top floor, exposed wooden beams taken from ships around 1,000 years ago, and a tunnel dating back to the 18th century which leads to the local church (according to local folklore). The family have also lovingly decorated the inside of the house to be stylish and modern, while ensuring that the property's original features are looked after and celebrated.
The property also boasts his and hers outdoor toilets and changing rooms connected to a pond once used for wild swimming, along with charming original outbuildings which have been transformed from stables into an office and studio.
Karlie and her family are desperately seeking another family to “love and treasure and cherish” the one-of-a-kind property, and hope to find a new owner who will treat the home with love. She said: “It's like a new property but wrapped with those little quirks like the uneven floors, but it's all modern with new pipework and a new boiler, so everything feels modern but it's wrapped within the uniqueness of its character. It's just perfect and it's so sad that it's not for us. I really want it to appeal to someone who will love and treasure and cherish it.”
