'You'd Do Anything for Neale Daniher': A Look at the Big Freeze 9 at the MCG
Key Highlights :
Neale Daniher, the former AFL player and coach, has made a lasting impact on the football community with his FightMND mission. For the ninth year, the Big Freeze will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Monday, June 12, where a fresh team of sliders will take the icy plunge for the cause.
The Big Freeze is an annual event that raises vital funds for research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a progressive neurological disorder which affects the brain and spinal cord. The aim of the Big Freeze is to help find a cure for MND, and this year, organisers are hoping to break the fundraising record.
To help reach this goal, the Big Freeze will feature some famous faces from the footy world. Geelong great Joel Selwood, and AFLW’s famous twins, Jess and Sarah Hosking, have already taken the plunge, braving the icy waters to show their support for the cause.
Selwood said “You know the recognition that it’s getting, led by Neale and the team ... you’d do anything for him.” The Hosking sisters also shared their passion for the cause, with Jess saying “it’s just nice to be part of a cause to be able to help make a difference and hopefully find a cure.”
FightMND CEO Dr Fiona McIntosh said Neale Daniher can no longer use his voice, but he is still asking everyone to be “all in” for the Big Freeze. So far, almost $70 million has been raised through the event, and this year, organisers are hoping to break another record.
To help support the mission, beanies and scarves are on sale at Bunnings, Coles and other stores. The full list of sliders will be announced in the next fortnight, ahead of the King’s Birthday blockbuster.
The Big Freeze is an important event for the football community, and a great way to show support for Neale Daniher and the FightMND mission. Seven and 7plus are the home of footy shows for every fan, so don’t forget to stream them all for free on Monday, June 12, and join the Big Freeze mission.
