9 Players Kaizer Chiefs Should Attempt to Sign to End Their Trophy Drought
Key Highlights :
With the Kaizer Chiefs having endured an eight-year trophy drought, former footballer-turned-analyst Junior Khanye has identified nine players he believes the Soweto giants should attempt to sign to end their drought.
The Amakhosi endured a disappointing season under Arthur Zwane, losing 12 times in the league, and Khanye believes that the club should prioritize signing some of the best players in order to restore their pride.
On his list of targets, Khanye has included some players currently contracted to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. “I don’t see why Chiefs shouldn’t try and negotiate with Sundowns for a player like Mosa Lebusa. Yes, he is contracted to Sundowns but he isn’t being utilised enough and I don’t see why attempts cannot be made to sign him along with Ricardo Goss,” said Khanye.
Khanye also believes that Kaizer Chiefs should have prioritised signing Andile Jali when he became a free agent, as well as Thulani Serero. He believes that Haashim Domingo should have been signed by Chiefs along with Lesedi Kapinga, and that Khanyisa Mayo should have been signed by Chiefs along with his teammate at Cape Town City in Thato Mokeke.
In addition, Khanye believes that Rowan Human at Maritzburg United should be signed by the Amakhosi. “I’m very disappointed in our team and how things are being done because it seems whatever happened this past season is going to happen again in the new season as far as the results are concerned,” he concluded.
It remains to be seen whether Kaizer Chiefs will heed Khanye's advice and make attempts to sign some of these players in order to end their trophy drought. If they do, it could be just the spark that the team needs to get back on track and start challenging for major honours again.
