Kangana Ranaut recently had a stunning photoshoot that featured her wearing a traditional Indian jewellery piece from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. After her pictures went viral, many called it a ‘crown’, to which Kangana responded by explaining the traditional headpieces worn in the two states.
The headpiece that Kangana wore is called a Saggi Phool in Punjab and a variation of Chakk in Himachal Pradesh. It is a traditional jewellery piece that is very popular in the two states. Reacting to a news portal that called it a crown, Kangana tweeted, “It’s not a crown it’s a traditional Indian jewel… very popular in Punjab and Himachal… in Punjab it’s known as Saggi phool and Himachal it’s a variation of chakk… even Indians don’t know about their heritage especially these embarrassing jurnos…”
Kangana also took to Instagram Stories to share pictures of Punjabi women wearing Saggi and wrote, “Traditional Saggi Phool in Punjab.” She shared another picture of a woman in a headpiece and captioned it, “Various headgears in Himachal.”

The Saggi Phool is a headpiece that is made of gold and is shaped like a flower. It is usually worn at the centre of the forehead and is accompanied by a necklace, earrings and bangles. The Chakk is a variation of the Saggi Phool and is typically worn by married women in Himachal Pradesh. It is usually made of silver and is adorned with semi-precious stones.
Kangana’s pictures in the traditional headpiece added to the regal look of her outfit. She had posted a few long shots and close up shots of her look on Instagram with the caption: “You don’t choose your dreams … they choose you … trust and take that leap.” She posted a video as well and wrote, “Love is not a choice that you can make … honestly there is no way out … you have no other choice.”

She recently bid goodbye to adhering to the trend of airport looks after taking credit for starting the same. She wrote last week, “Brainwashed by magazine editors and fashion industry to look a western woman so that I only fill the pockets of international designers. Ashamed to repeat clothes always buying without any care about the impact of my choices on the environment.”
