Celebrated Perth Butcher Vince Garreffa Hosts American BBQ Competition and Bonfire Party to Raise Money for Lifeline
Key Highlights :
Celebrated Perth butcher Vince Garreffa, founder of Mondo Butchers, will be hosting an American barbeque competition and bonfire party to raise money for suicide prevention service Lifeline. In celebration of American Independence Day, the Kansas City BBQ Society will be preparing a feast of barbecued pork ribs, pulled pork, roasted chestnuts and more.
The fundraiser will be held on July 8th in the Perth hills suburb of Carmel and will be a BYO event. Refreshments including mulled wine and homemade lemonade will be served. Local virtuosos Morgan Clementine and Phoebe Tait will dish up the live entertainment from a stage set up inside an onsite aircraft hanger.
The event will also feature Pezzano fruit and veg, who have donated pumpkin, corn and salads, as well as lemons for everyone to take home. Last year, there were so many sweets that everyone ended up taking home as much as they brought.
This is the fourth year Mr Garreffa has hosted the $100-a-head event for the suicide prevention service with its vital 24-hour crisis support hotline. “Lifeline is the most important thing in my life,” Mr Garreffa said. “I started with Graham Mabury (the former host of talkback radio program Nightline) talking about food on his radio station. The more I found out about Lifeline and how many people he was helping, I started getting involved and taking food to events.”
Now that work is taken on by Mondo Community Warriors, a charity group formed by Perth’s beloved butcher that has raised money for Lifeline for over 30 years. “We’ve got lovely people behind and lovely people in front of us. We’re nothing without our volunteers and supporters. I love these people, they’re the reason I can put an event together,” Mr Garreffa said. “But the beautiful thing is that every single one of them is so proud that they’re able to work for a charity that gives 100 per cent of every dollar to a good cause.”
Though the event’s pamphlet asks attendees to ‘dress for winter,’ Mr Garreffa promised a warm reception. “The weather shouldn’t scare you off. We have an airplane hangar which we will be used as a dining room and stage for the music,” Mr Garreffa said. “We’ll be having the biggest bonfire in south east Australasia. We promise to keep you warm, well fed and well entertained. “If you are in a position to be able to make a donation to support the most important mental health charity in WA, Lifeline WA is who you are helping,” he said.
The American BBQ competition and bonfire party will take place in Carmel on July 8. Tickets are available online or from Mr Garreffa on 0411 881 193. The event promises to be a night of good food, good company, and an even better cause. So if you’re looking for a fun and meaningful way to celebrate American Independence Day, this is the event for you.
