# Emergency Services Respond to Lorry Overturning on Railway Line in Bognor Regis, Causing Gas Leak
Key Highlights :
Early this morning, a lorry overturned near a railway line in Longford Road, Bognor Regis, causing a gas leak. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and gas engineers are currently at the scene, and the road is closed. People living in the area have been warned to keep their windows and doors closed.
The lorry, a Greggs lorry, left the road, went through a fence and overturned, blocking access to signalling equipment. The fire service is working with gas engineers to isolate the gas before moving the vehicle, and the area is likely to remain closed for several hours.
A Southern Rail spokesman said that while the lorry is not blocking the tracks, it is in a precarious position on its side and is on top of and blocking access to signalling equipment. A telegraph pole may have also been damaged, which risks falling if the lorry is moved.
Trains are unable to run to and from Bognor Regis, and services will terminate and restart at either Chichester or Barnham instead. It is strongly advised that people avoid travelling to and from Bognor Regis until the line has reopened.
The emergency services and specialist engineers are working on a plan to get the lorry removed safely as soon as possible, and the gas leak needs to be capped and made safe before they can move the lorry.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have asked people living in the vicinity of Longford Road to remain in their homes and keep windows and doors closed. They are also asking people to stay away from the area, as crews are working to make the area safe.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety around railway lines and of the need to be aware of the potential dangers of gas leaks. It is essential that the emergency services are given the space to do their job, and that people follow their advice.
