In the wake of a global pandemic and in the midst of the cost of living crisis, many businesses have been forced to shut their doors due to financial pressures. However, some local businesses have managed to beat the odds and remain open, such as Dawn's Deli on Grimsby Road in Cleethorpes. Dawn's Deli has been open since 2009, originally opening as Dawn Till Dusk, and has overcome many hurdles over the years to remain open.

At Dawn's Deli, customers can enjoy a range of tasty lunch options, from main homemade meals to buns, baguettes and paninis with a range of fillings. There are also All Day Breakfasts and breakfast buns, pastries and old school puddings. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and each lockdown, Dawn's Deli remained open throughout, initially serving key workers as a takeaway service when the first lockdown was announced in March 2020.

Dawn told Grimsby Live: "We stayed open all the way through the lockdowns. We served key workers as a takeaway and stayed open all the way through [the pandemic]. By midday we'd be completely sold out. There'd be rows of orders all along the sides. We had the shutter halfway down to start with and people used to stand at the door, then we were allowed two in at a time. It's been really hard."

Dawn has been forced to increase her prices in response to the cost of living crisis, but only by "5p or 10p" in order to keep her food affordable for customers. On a sunny Friday afternoon, I decided to visit Dawn's Deli for the first time and try out some of their classic comfort food. I went for the ham, cheese and red onion panini with a side dish of coleslaw, and a cornflake tart to finish. It was all delicious, and the chips were heavenly. Altogether, it came to £9.15, which I thought was very good value.

Dawn's Deli is open from 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday, and is the perfect place for those looking for a tasty, homemade lunch that's filling and affordable. It's fantastic to see businesses still thriving after all this time, and Dawn's Deli is certainly a staple local business that has overcome many challenges over the years.
