Former Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp, who played social worker Nicola Rubinstein on the ITV soap from 2017 to 2019, was subjected to a two-year stalking ordeal from a man who called himself the 'Grim Reaper'. Ravinderjit Dhillon, 30, used 25 aliases to contact Nicola online and made violent threats against her, including threats to rape, choke, and force her into sexual acts.

The 34-year-old actress was praised for her courage by magistrates who sent the case to crown court for sentencing. Dhillon was convicted of stalking involving fear of violence after a trial in April. In a statement, Dhillon said he didn’t know the former Corrie star.

Nicola detailed the harassment she faced from Dhillon in an 89-page document given to the Met Police. The campaign of abuse started in 2018 when he sent her a graphic picture of himself. Using aliases online, Nicola said Dhillon became an “army of men” who made violent threats against her.

“Dhillon became an army of men all wanting to do me harm, threats to rape me, choke me,” she told the court. He also sent her a direct message on Instagram stating: “A woman’s place was on her knees.”

“He told me I was to be put in a headlock and forced into sexual acts and wanted to make my parents watch,” she continued. “He sent me messages saying, ‘I’m going to be with you forever’, he said, ‘I’m your grim reaper’ and in one message alone he said 28 times he ‘wasn’t going to leave me’,” Nicola added.

Nicola said the “longevity of his online stalking wore me down”, leaving her “terrified”. Police eventually linked Dhillon’s IP address to the accounts he used to harass Nicola, and he was arrested. Dhillion will be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 10 July, and has been remanded in custody.

The case highlights the importance of taking any kind of harassment or stalking seriously, and Nicola’s courage in standing up to her stalker should be applauded. If you find yourself in a similar situation, it is important to contact the police and seek help from a professional.
