Jeremy Clarkson, the star of Top Gear and Clarkson Farm, has expressed his disbelief at the ongoing saga surrounding former ITV This Morning presenter Philip Schofield. In an opinion piece for The Sunday Times, Clarkson described the "witch hunt" against Schofield, who was dropped by ITV after it was revealed that he had misled the broadcaster, as "weird".

Clarkson wrote that he had "no skin in the fight" over Schofield's job, but felt compelled to comment on the situation. He went on to say that he had "never seen a witch hunt like it" and that Schofield was only guilty of being what he said he was: gay.

The presenter also questioned why there was such outrage over Schofield's secret affair with a younger male colleague, when there was very little criticism of Leonardo DiCaprio's relationship with a much younger woman, or Al Pacino's relationship with a much younger pregnant girlfriend.

Clarkson concluded by saying that he did not believe ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall or the director of television would have been aware of the controversial affair. He also said that the public would be subjected to "endless conversations" about the duty of care.

It was later announced that Josie Gibson, who won the 2010 series of Big Brother and joined the ITV show in 2019, would be filling in on the sofa for Holly Willoughby when This Morning returns to ITV1 on Monday from 10 am.
