National Planning Commission Initiates Work on 16th Five-Year Plan
Key Highlights :
The National Planning Commission (NPC) has initiated its work procedure to prepare the 16th five-year plan during the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24. The commission held a meeting with journalists today seeking their suggestions and queries regarding the formation and implementation of the commission's five-year plan. Min Bahadur Shrestha, vice-chairman of NPC, emphasised the need to restructure the commission for effective monitoring and evaluation of the projects and informed that the commission is already taking necessary steps to do just that.
The 16th five-year plan is expected to focus on digital database and e-governance, maximising the use of natural resources, creating employment opportunities, and reducing dependency on remittances. The 14th five-year plan was successful in meeting its targets compared to previous five-year plans brought forward by the NPC. However, the 15th five-year plan has received negative feedback in terms of meeting the targets set due to the spread of COVID-19, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and external and internal economic slowdown.
In order to ensure that the 16th five-year plan is successful, the NPC is brainstorming with experts and related stakeholders to identify the issues seen in respective sectors. The commission is also taking steps to restructure itself in order to establish the NPC as a strong and effective body. This will help in solving the issues seen at present, and ensure that the 16th five-year plan meets its targets.
The NPC is seeking the help of journalists in preparing the 16th five-year plan. This is an important step in ensuring that the plan is successful in meeting its targets. The NPC is confident that the plan will help in achieving the goals of economic development, employment generation, and poverty reduction.
