     David Ogilvy, 13th Earl of Airlie, a close friend of the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles' Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle, has passed away at the age of 97. Born in Scotland, he served as a page at the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937 and was the last surviving participant of that momentous occasion. His death was confirmed by Alastair Bruce, godfather to the Earl of Wessex, and met with an outpouring of tributes from his followers.

     David and the Queen became friends when they were children, after he invited her to take a ride in his birthday present - a pedal car - at his party. He went on to become a key figure in the royal household, regularly staying at Sandringham and Balmoral to go shooting with the family. In 1984, the Queen appointed him as Lord Chamberlain and he was even portrayed in the 2006 film The Queen and season five of The Crown.

     David was married to Virginia Ogilvy, Countess of Airlie, who was one of the late Queen's ladies-in-waiting. The couple had six children together and eleven grandchildren. His death has been met with sadness from the Royal Family, who shared their condolences on social media.

     The life of David Ogilvy, 13th Earl of Airlie, was one of service, loyalty and friendship to the Royal Family. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him and remembered for his incredible contribution to the monarchy.
