The Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Shooting Star Children's Hospice in London today, appearing in good spirits as she got creative with children during an arts and crafts session. The 58-year-old royal looked typically elegant in a sophisticated white gown which she paired with a cropped navy blazer, white wedge heels, and a chic silver clutch bag.

Having a strong personal interest in the provisions for people with disabilities and young people, the Duchess of Edinburgh has been championing Shooting Star Children's Hospices for many years. In 2002, she officially opened their Guildford hospice and has continued to visit regularly, while also showing support for major fundraising events.

The Shooting Star Children's Hospices updated their name in February 2019, after eight years of being known as Shooting Star Chase following the merger of two separate children's hospice charities. The organisation focuses on supporting over 700 children and their families throughout Surrey and 15 boroughs of London.

During her visit, the Duchess of Edinburgh got stuck into planting trees in the hospice garden, read to the children, and even joined in with decorating biscuits. She also chatted to volunteers and families, and praised the work of those involved in running Shooting Star Children's Hospice, saying: "The care and love that you show to every single child who comes through the door is immeasurable. You are their family when they're here. The parents trust you completely with their children and no price can be put on that."

The Duchess of Edinburgh also recently made a surprise visit to Iraq as part of her work championing the survivors of conflict-related sexual violence. She attended several engagements during her stay, and delivered a message of greeting from the King to the Iraqi president, Abdul Latif Rashid, and the First Lady after meeting them in Baghdad. Sophie visited a high school for girls, and spoke to students and teachers about education for young women in the country, and their hopes for the future.

The Duchess of Edinburgh's visit to the Shooting Star Children's Hospice today serves as a reminder of the important work that the organisation does in supporting children and their families. Her continued support of the charity is a testament to her commitment to the cause and the impact it has had on the lives of so many.
