North East Lincolnshire Council has been forced to close the play area of a Cleethorpes park following repeated episodes of vandalism. Pictures have emerged on social media which show the astroturf ripped up in three separate spots within the children's play park in Sidney Park on Brereton Avenue. The spots include directly underneath the baby swings, with a large section of the astroturf ripped on both sides, exposing the ground underneath. A left-behind spade can also be seen in one of the pictures.

The council's decision to close the play area until the vandalism can be repaired and the park made safe for children to use again, has been met with a mix of emotions. While some are angry and frustrated at the vandals, others are feeling helpless and saddened that such a popular park has been targeted.

A spokesperson for North East Lincolnshire Council said: "How do you explain to a four-year-old that their favourite park has been trashed again? We now have to close Sidney Park play area until this vandalism can be repaired and made safe. "If you know who did it, please report it to the police on 101."

The council has been working hard to make sure that the park is safe and secure for children to use. They have installed CCTV cameras, increased the number of security guards in the area and have been carrying out regular patrols. Despite these measures, the vandals have still managed to gain access to the park and cause significant damage.

The council is now asking for the public's help in catching the vandals and bringing them to justice. They are urging anyone who knows who committed the vandalism, to report it to Humberside Police on 101.

The closing of the play area has been a great disappointment to many families in the area, who have been looking forward to visiting the park with their children. It is hoped that the vandals will be caught soon and that the park will be reopened for everyone to enjoy.

Until then, North East Lincolnshire Council is encouraging people to find alternative places to take their children, such as local parks, playgrounds and other outdoor activities.
