The Sad Closure of Hartlepool Sandwich Shop EllyB’s Due to Rising Costs
Key Highlights :
It was with a heavy heart that the owners of a popular North East sandwich shop, EllyB’s, announced on social media on Friday (June 23) that their business would be closing its doors due to rising costs. The spokesperson for the shop said that the costs of stock and utilities had become too much for them to bear and they could no longer afford to remain open.
The news of the closure came as a shock to the Hartlepool community, who had enjoyed the eatery’s sandwiches, baguettes, chips, fry-ups, pasta and burgers for decades. Residents reacted to the news with sadness and shock, and passed on their well wishes to the owners.
EllyB’s was established in 1995 and had been a one-stop sandwich shop for the town for 25 years. The business thanked the community for their support over the years, but said that the rising costs meant that they could no longer remain open.
One resident said: “Sad news, good luck for the future.” Another resident said: “It’s all wrong, when good hardworking people can't make ends meet for themselves.” Meanwhile, another business owner said: “So sorry to hear, we are in the same predicament too and are closing next year after we have honoured all our commitments. You’re a lovely bunch of people and always gave your very best service with excellent food. Thank you. Good luck in whatever you do next.”
The closure of EllyB’s serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting local businesses and the difficulty that small businesses face in the face of rising costs. It is a loss to the Hartlepool community and will be missed by many. We wish the owners of EllyB’s the best of luck for the future.
