Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has become the latest sports star to join the long list of celebrities and sports stars who frequent the unassuming but excellent Spanish tapas spot, Cambio de Tercio, in west London.

The 20-year-old Spaniard, who defeated Novak Djokovic in five tough sets to win the tournament on Sunday, visited the restaurant five times during his stay in London. According to owner Abel Lusa, Alcaraz is a fan of the restaurant’s Iberian take on sushi, crispy nigiri, made with vinegar and served on chipotle mayonnaise. Alcaraz is also said to ask Lusa to “bring whatever’s good” when he visits.

Other dishes on offer at Cambio de Tercio include tomatoes cooked for eight hours in oloroso sherry, grilled gambas with aioli, sea bream with yuzu and chilli, and garlicky lamb chops. The venue is half traditional, half modern and is a popular spot for celebrities and sports stars alike.

Rishi Sunak and his family have eaten at Cambio de Tercio more than once, while Piers Morgan has also been known to frequent the restaurant, even choosing it as the spot to be interviewed for the Financial Times’ Lunch with the FT feature.

When it comes to Wimbledon winners, Alcaraz is in good company. Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, and Andy Murray are all big fans of Cambio de Tercio. It is fair to say then that there is a distinct link between tennis stardom and the little neighbourhood tapas restaurant in west London. With Alcaraz’s win, it looks like the venue is about to become even more popular, so good luck getting a table!
