Exploring Curry House on Spring Road in Southampton: A One-Out-of-Five Food Hygiene Rating
Key Highlights :
Situated on Spring Road in Southampton, Curry House is a takeout with a damning one-out-of-five food hygiene rating. The rating came as a result of an inspection carried out by Southampton City Council on May 12th, which revealed that the restaurant had "dirty floors, door frames and windowsills".
The inspection highlighted a number of areas in need of urgent improvement. For example, the cooling system in the restaurant was found to be inadequate and several containers of uncovered food were cooling in the rear. Furthermore, the rear door to the outside was open and no fly screen was fitted, a potential source of contamination.
The inspection also revealed that poppadoms were being stored in open boxes above fridges and shelving, and that there was a broken window with no attempt to cover the damage to minimise pieces breaking off that could contaminate food. The glazed wall was also damaged, but this had been covered by tape and cardboard.
Inspectors also noted a "build-up of debris" on the "dirty" floor and that pipes were "dirty with food debris and a build-up of dirt". The windowsills by the washing up area were also "dirty" and the doorframes and the leading edges of the doors were "dirty" where they had been opened by hand, indicating a "lack of hand washing".
The inspection also revealed that there was no allergen information printed on the menu, a potential source of danger for customers with allergies. The Daily Echo has contacted Curry House and is waiting for a response.
It is important to take food hygiene ratings seriously, and this is a reminder that it is essential to take the necessary steps to ensure that food hygiene standards are maintained. It is also important to ensure that allergen information is clearly provided on menus to protect those who may have allergies.
