UK Drivers Warned: Flashing Lights Could Result in Fines
Key Highlights :
With the busy roads of the UK, it can be hard to make sure everyone is driving safely. To help, many drivers use a friendly warning gesture of flashing their headlights to let other drivers know they are making way for them. However, what many drivers may not know is that this gesture could result in a fine.
A recent study from findandfundmycar.com tested 2,000 drivers on their knowledge of the rules of the road. The analysis found that more than half of drivers were guilty of using the ‘friendly warning’. Other habits that could land drivers in hot water include beeping their horn in anger or pulling over to use their phone with the engine still running.
Phil Morgan, Head of findandfundmycar.com, warned drivers of the risks of using the friendly warning. He said: “While the chances of getting fined for doing any of the offenses are extremely low, they’re still not worth the risk. Nobody wants to risk their safety or have to pay a hefty fine for something that they didn’t know was going to cost them, so it’s best to know these sooner rather than later.”
The RAC also issued a warning to drivers, saying: “Headlight flashes should only be used to warn drivers of your presence on the road. Simply put, it’s open to misinterpretation (particularly as it means different things in other countries), so think carefully before you reach for the beams.”
It’s important to keep in mind that flashing headlights could result in a fine. While it may be a friendly warning to other drivers, it is best to use caution and respect the rules of the road. Speed cameras and police officers are there to keep everyone safe, so it’s important to be aware of the consequences of your actions.
