Elon Musk Announces X Social Media Platform Will Fund Legal Bills of People Treated Unfairly by Employers
Key Highlights :
Elon Musk, the founder of X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced that the social media platform will fund the legal bills of people who have been treated unfairly by employers due to posting or liking something on the site. In a post on X, Musk said that there would be no limits to funding the bills and that they will not just sue, but will make it “extremely loud” and “go after the boards of directors of the companies too”.
This announcement comes after Musk’s recent renaming of Twitter to X and the unveiling of a new logo to mark a focus on building an “everything app”. After 17 years with an iconic blue bird logo that came to symbolise the broadcasting of ideas to the world, Musk changed the name and logo in July.
The platform’s monthly users have reached a “new high”, with a graph showing the latest count as more than 540 million. This has come as the company is going through organisational changes and looking to boost declining advertising revenue. X executives have claimed strong traction in usage after Meta Platforms launched a direct competing platform called Threads on July 5.
Despite this, Musk has said that the platform’s cash flow remains negative because of an almost 50 per cent drop in advertising revenue and a heavy debt load. An upturn in advertising revenue that had been expected in June failed to materialise.
Since taking over Twitter in October, Musk has said that he envisions an app that offers a variety of services such as peer-to-peer payments - an idea that mirrors the widely popular WeChat app in China.
The announcement of X funding legal bills for people treated unfairly by employers due to posting or liking something on the platform is a welcome move and one that could potentially help many people. It shows that Musk is serious about creating an “everything app” and making sure that it is a safe and secure place for people to express their views.
