Liverpool Set to Make a Surprise Move After Missing Out on Big Midfield Targets
Key Highlights :
Liverpool are licking their wounds after missing out on two major midfield targets in recent days. Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia were both heavily linked with moves to Anfield, but have since opted to join Chelsea instead. The Reds are now looking to make a surprise move in the wake of their disappointment, with reports suggesting they have their sights set on Portuguese defender Goncalo Inacio.
Inacio, 21, currently plays for Porto and has a release clause of £39m. He is capable of playing as a left-sided centre-back, and could be used as a left-back in the future. Liverpool are in desperate need of reliable defensive options, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate their current first-choice pairing. Inacio could offer a little more defensive solidity than Andy Robertson, whose natural inclination is to bomb on.
If the Reds had £110m to spend on Caicedo, activating Inacio's release clause could still leave them with around £70m to spend on one or two other midfielders. Ibrahim Sangare, available for £30m on a release clause, could be an option. Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur in their next match at 3pm this Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp's side have been on the hunt for a new midfielder since the start of the transfer window, and it looks as if they are now looking to add a defender to their ranks. Inacio is valued at €30m by Porto, and his arrival could be a shrewd move for the Merseysiders. The Portuguese star could be the perfect fit for Klopp's on-ball system, and could help shore up their defence.
