The Celebration of Independence Day in Lahore: A Review of the Police Executive Board Meeting

1. The Punjab Police have decided not to purchase expensive sniper rifles, instead they will purchase ammunition for the force.
2. The Police Executive Board has approved a decision not to give monthly stipends of 32,000 rupees to the widows of police employees before 1992.
3. The Police Executive Board has approved the issuance of foreign scholarships for children of police employees and martyrs.
4. The Police Executive Board has approved the issuance of 50 more laptops to increase the educational capacity of the martyrs’ children.




     The celebration of Pakistan’s Independence Day in Lahore was a grand success due to the efforts of the Punjab Police. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar chaired the Police Executive Board meeting at the Central Police Office to review the security arrangements made for the occasion. The board discussed various issues related to traffic police, establishment, logistics, development, safe city, operations, establishment and investigation.

     The board approved a unanimous decision not to purchase expensive sniper rifles for the force, instead opting to purchase ammunition for the force. Additionally, they approved a monthly stipend of 32 thousand rupees to the widows of police employees before 1992 as per the minimum wage rate. The board also approved the issuance of foreign scholarships for children of constabulary and martyrs. These scholarships will include one time air travel tickets for graduation, post-graduation, and specialization until the completion of their education. Senior police officers will not be included in this foreign scholarship program. Additionally, 50 more laptops will be given from the welfare fund to increase the educational capacity of the martyrs’ children.

     Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana has commended the officers and personnel of Lahore police for their excellent security and traffic management arrangements. Adequate security was provided to citizens and families visiting parks, recreational spots, and public places. He also mentioned that all units of Lahore police demonstrated excellent coordination and teamwork.

     On Independence Day, 110 cases were registered and accused were arrested during crackdowns against unauthorized weapons. Additionally, in action against one-wheeling 365 cases were registered and one-wheelers were also arrested. The police personnel of Lahore have worked hard to ensure that the celebration of Independence Day was a success and deserve to be applauded.
