Cambridge Firefighters Move Delivery Robots During Building Fire
Key Highlights :
On Saturday evening (September 16), firefighters attending a building fire in Cambridge had to move two or three delivery robots. The Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service posted a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing the robots being moved across the street.
Perne Road was closed at the junction with Mill Road while firefighters dealt with a derelict building in Brookfields. Four fire engines attended the scene and residents were asked to avoid the area. The Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Sorry Co-Op our hoses and fire engines confused your delivery robots in Cambridge this evening as we tackled a building fire, but firefighters helped them on their way – hopefully not too many delays!”
The robots belonged to Starship Technologies and were delivering for Co-Op. A spokesperson for the service told the Express: “Four fire engines and an aerial appliance were needed and together with the hoses blocked the road and pathways. They had to assist two or three on their way.”
Co-Op responded to the post, saying: “Thanks for letting us know Cambridgeshire. I'm glad to hear they were able to help.”
It’s not the first time firefighters have had to move delivery robots. In July, firefighters in London moved two delivery robots out of the way while attending a blaze in a block of flats.
The Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people to take extra care when dealing with fires. They advise people to have a working smoke alarm in their home and to make sure everyone knows what to do in the event of a fire.
If you’re ever in a situation where you need to evacuate a building, the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service recommends that you close all doors and windows to contain the fire, and if possible, turn off the electricity and gas.
The Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service also recommends that you have a plan of action in place in case of a fire. This plan should include the best way to exit the building and a designated meeting place outside.
