Key Highlights :
After spending over a decade on The Cobbles, ITV Coronation Street star Lisa George has hinted at leaving the show to pursue new roles on shows like Call The Midwife. The Manchester-based actress, who plays Beth Tinker on the soap, revealed that she is yet to hear if her contract will be renewed for 2024, adding that she would love to explore new parts.
Since joining the show in 2011, Lisa has taken part in a number of storylines, including her character Beth’s struggle with feelings for her ex while married to Kirk Sutherland. However, the star has now hinted at taking on new roles in shows like Call The Midwife.
Speaking of her future, Lisa said: “I’m really interested in the war stuff because my grandad talked about the war all the time. So I’d love to do a 1940s drama. Or something set in the 60s would be amazing. I would love to do Call The Midwife. And I watched Ten Pound Poms and loved it. A role in something like that would be amazing. I’d love to do something like that. I like my vintage dramas and stuff like that, maybe a 1940s drama, more like war stuff.”
The actress is still waiting to hear if she will get a contract renewal, as other popular names have left the show, including Todd Boyce who played Stephen Reid. If she does leave Coronation Street, Lisa will join a long list of actors who have left the show to pursue other projects, including Suranne Jones, who left in 2000 to star in Doctor Foster and Michelle Keegan, who left in 2014 to star in Our Girl.
With her contract still up in the air, Lisa is keeping her options open and has expressed an interest in taking on new roles. Whether she will stay on Coronation Street or pursue other projects remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – the show will be losing a beloved cast member if Lisa does decide to leave.
