Schools in Rajasthan's Jalore District Closed Due to Heavy Rainfall
Key Highlights :
Heavy rains in the country have caused disruption in the functioning of schools in various states. The latest to join the list is Rajasthan's Jalore district, where all government and private schools as well as anganwadis have been closed on September 18, 2023 due to the ongoing rainfall and the 'heavy rainfall' alert in the district by the meteorological department.
The Jalore District Education Officer released an official notice on Sunday, September 17, announcing 'holiday' in all schools in the district on September 18, 2023. The notice stated, "Considering the heavy rainfall alert in the district by the meteorological department and the ongoing incessant rainfall in the district, a public holiday has been declared for all government and private schools as well as anganwadis of the district on September 18, 2023."
This is not the first time schools have been shut due to heavy rainfall. In the past few weeks, schools in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Lucknow were closed in the wake of incessant rains.
The situation is similar in other parts of the country as well. Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa have been lashed by heavy rainfall in the past few days. In Madhya Pradesh, over 8,700 people had to be relocated due to flood-like situations in various districts, including Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Alirajpur, and Indore.
In Gujarat, several districts have been battered by heavy rainfalls in the past two days. Ahmedabad has received a rainfall of 76 mm in just 12 hours, and the water levels in the Narmada river have led to flooding in low-lying areas of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rains in parts of Gujarat, including Junagarh and Porbandar today.
The closure of schools due to heavy rains has caused a disruption in the learning process of students. The education department has taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety of students and staff in the district. It is important to keep a check on the weather conditions and take the necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incident.
