The Dundee Appeal Against Josh Mulligan's Red Card Rejected by SFA
Key Highlights :
Dundee Football Club have been left disappointed after their appeal against Josh Mulligan's straight red card against Kilmarnock was rejected by the Scottish Football Association (SFA). The Dark Blues were hoping the SFA's fast-track tribunal would overturn the decision, which was made by referee David Munro in the first-half of the match.
Mulligan was shown the red card after a lunge on Killie attacker Dan Armstrong, and the decision was then reinforced by the video assistant referee (VAR) Euan Anderson. Despite the club's strong disagreement with the decision, the SFA tribunal has upheld the original ruling, meaning Mulligan will now miss the club's next two matches.
Speaking after the decision was made, Dundee manager James Docherty said: “I thought he would reverse it but I spoke to him at half-time and he deemed it to be reckless. It was never a red card.” He went on to say that the club felt it was their “duty” to appeal the decision, as they felt so strongly that it was an incorrect call.
The SFA's decision leaves the Dens youngster suspended for two matches, meaning he will miss Saturday's trip to Hibs and the following home clash with Ross County. This is a major setback for the Dark Blues, as the 21-year-old has been a key figure in the side this season, making 11 appearances in all competitions.
The club have declared their disappointment at the outcome of their appeal, but have said they will not make any further comment on the matter. This is a difficult situation for the club, as they now have to make do without their first-choice centre-back for the next two matches. It remains to be seen how Dundee will cope without Mulligan, but it is certainly a major blow for the team.
