Controversial coach Jorge Vilda is back in management, having been appointed as the manager of Morocco's women's national team. Vilda had been sacked by Spain less than a month after leading them to Women's World Cup glory in a surprise victory over England in the final.

Vilda had been in charge of the Spanish women's side for five years, having stepped into the senior role back in 2015. The team had been embroiled in a dispute with Vilda prior to the tournament, as 15 players boycotted the national side in protest of his coaching style and treatment of players.

Despite the controversy, Vilda was able to lead Spain to victory in the World Cup, only to be removed from his post shortly after. Former Barcelona midfielder and assistant coach Montse Tome has since been given the senior role, having worked with Vilda since 2018.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has now hired Vilda to take charge of the women's national team, following their success in reaching the round of 16 at the summer tournament. The federation thanked his predecessor Reynald Pedros in a statement, saying: "The Royal Moroccan Football Federation contracted the Spanish coach Mr Vilda to coach the women's national football team in the next stage."

Vilda's immediate focus will be on the 2024 Olympic Games and the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Morocco. He will be hoping to build on the success of the previous tournament and lead Morocco to further glory.

The controversy surrounding Vilda has tarnished the reputation of the Spanish national team, and the Royal Spanish Football Federation has expressed its regret for the incident. They said: "Those actions do not reflect at all the values of the whole Spanish society, its institutions, its representatives, its athletes and the leaders of Spanish sport."

Despite the controversy, Vilda has been given a second chance in management, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in his new role. He has the chance to prove himself and show that he is the right man for the job.
