It was a sight to behold as former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas, 39, was seen rehearsing for the upcoming season of Dancing on Ice in Essex for the first time on Monday. Wrapped up warm in a white hooded jumper and a red hat, Ryan was seen practicing his balance with his instructor, showing just how dedicated he is to the cause.

Ryan was the last celebrity confirmed to be participating in the ice skating dance competition, and the news was officially announced on the show’s official Instagram page with the caption “Bringing suave style to his skates, welcome Ryan Thomas to the ice!”

The actor appeared on Steph’s Packed Lunch on Friday to discuss his feelings about joining the show, saying “When you can actually get the opportunity to go and work with new people, outside your comfort zone, learn something new, it’s exciting, especially when you’ve got kids and family at home. It’s nice to do those things, it’s huge.”

Ryan’s brother, Adam Thomas, is also taking part in the current season of Strictly Come Dancing, and has admitted to struggling to balance rehearsals with his acting schedule. In response to Ryan joining the Dancing on Ice line-up, Adam joked “I can give you some lessons on the dancing brother if you need it…”

Ryan rose to fame as Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street and has a child with on-screen partner Tina O’Brien, who played Sarah Platt. He has two children with current fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh, a former TOWIE star, whom he has been with since 2017.

Both of Ryan’s brothers are in the acting business, with Adam having starred in Waterloo Road and Emmerdale, and Scott in Love Island. Ryan announced his retirement from acting in 2021.

The upcoming season of Dancing on Ice will also feature former pro boxer Ricky Hatton, singer Hannah Spearritt, athlete Greg Rutherford, Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb, EastEnders star Ricky Norwood, West End star Amber Davies, reality star Miles Nazaire, comedian Lou Sanders, radio presenter Adele Roberts and Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi.

It will be interesting to see how these celebrities fare on the ice, and Ryan’s determination to practice and perfect his moves is a testament to the dedication of the contestants. With the show set to air in early 2024, it won’t be long before we find out who will be crowned the winner.
