The world of cricket was stunned on Sunday when 21-year-old Jake Fraser McGurk smashed a record-breaking century off just 29 balls for South Australia, faster than any ever recorded in a professional cricket match. The now 21-year-old, who moved from Victoria in the off-season, smashed an unbelievable 13 sixes and 10 fours in the record-breaking innings before being dismissed for 125 off only 38 balls.

McGurk's astonishing feat was two-balls quicker than the fastest ever international one-day hundred, scored by South African legend Ab de Villiers who took 31 balls against the West Indies in 2015 in Johannesburg. The former teen prodigy reached his hundred off just 29 deliveries at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide, and he needed just 11 deliveries to go from 50 to 100.

McGurk hit 12 of his 13 sixes and seven of his 10 fours in reaching triple figures and setting a world record. He demolished Luke Ronchi's previous benchmark for the fastest Australian domestic one-day ton, which came off 51 and took Tasmanian bowler Sam Rainbird's second over for 32, the equal most ever conceded in the competition, smashing four sixes and two fours.

At one stage Fraser-McGurk smashed five consecutive sixes and reached triple-figures in the ninth over of the innings and the opener's 18-ball fifty was the quickest by an Australian in any 50-over cricket. He was dismissed going for another six, caught on the boundary to bring the record-setting innings to an end in the 16th over with his team on 172.

It was McGurk's maiden first class hundred, having made his debut for Victoria as a 17-year-old in 2019 in a one-day game at the MCG before he moved to the Redbacks for this season. Before his belligerent batting effort, Fraser McGurk had only passed 50 once in his nine List A one-day games, and that score of 51 came in his debut match.

His hundred came as SA tried to chase down Tasmania's mammoth score of 9-435, the biggest ever in the domestic one-day competition, after captain Jordan Silk made 116 on a day of record-setting.

Fraser McGurk's record-breaking achievement is a testament to the potential of this young prodigy, who has already made a name for himself in the cricket world. His 29-ball century has set a new standard for cricketing excellence, and his skill and determination will no doubt be remembered for years to come.
