The royal family of Portugal has something to celebrate! After more than 25 years, Infanta Maria Francisca de Bragança, Duchess of Coimbra, 26, and her lawyer beau, Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins, 31, tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at the Palace of Mafra. The Duke and Duchess of Braganza's only daughter got engaged last year after first being linked with her beau in 2019, according to CNN Portugal.
The couple looked absolutely stunning on their big day, with the bride wearing an ivory wedding gown with a sophisticated V-neck cut and long sleeves, accessorized with an ornate diamond tiara, statement earrings and a veil. Her groom cut a dapper figure in an elegant suit with pinstripe trousers and a chic cream waistcoat, finishing the look off with a fitted black coat and a dusky blue tie.
The ceremony was attended by thousands of guests, many of whom were foreign royal family members and socialites. The evening celebrations included a festival and cocktail reception, ending with a dinner at the Duke and Duchess's home in Sintra, Lisbon. Maria was reportedly wearing two wedding gowns for the occasion, created by designer Luzia do Nascimento, as well as Queen Amélie's diamond tiara.
Speaking to CNN Portugal, Duarte admitted that he intends to stay 'behind the scenes' while his wife - who he fondly calls 'Chica' - will spearhead their presence in the public eye. The pair are also understood to soon be moving to London at the end of the year.
The royal wedding was a joyous occasion for the entire country of Portugal and marks the first royal wedding in more than a quarter of a century. Congratulations to the happy couple!
