Bajrang Punia Granted Bail in Criminal Defamation Case Filed by Coach Naresh Dahiya
Key Highlights :
The recent wrestlers' protest in India has seen a lot of attention being brought to the issues of sexual exploitation of female wrestlers by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. During the protest, Bajrang Punia, one of India's top wrestlers, had made a statement that coach Naresh Dahiya did not have any credibility to oppose the agitation since he himself was facing a rape case.
In response, Dahiya had filed a criminal defamation case against Bajrang, who recently suffered defeat at the Asian Games to return without a medal. On Thursday, Bajrang was granted bail by a Delhi court. His lawyer Rajesh Kumar Rexwal stated that Bajrang had missed the first three hearings and had sought exemption from physical appearance.
Dahiya had contended in the court that he had been acquitted in the rape case and Bajrang's comments had brought him bad name. Singh has denied all the charges.
The latest development has been welcomed by the wrestling community in India, as it shows that justice is being served and the wrestlers are being heard. It is also a reminder that those who make false accusations and statements should be held accountable for their actions. It is hoped that the case will be resolved soon and that the wrestlers will be able to continue their fight for justice.
