Curtis Jones is a 22-year-old midfielder who has not been a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp this season due to injury and suspension. However, his former manager Lee Carsley believes he has what it takes to become a leading midfielder and succeed at the highest level.

Jones has been capped 20 times and scored five goals for England's Under-21 side between 2020 and earlier this year, and was a key part of the team that won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Carsley recently spoke highly of Jones, saying: “Similar to Cole (Palmer), I'm not surprised one bit (by his progress). Curtis would be up there with the most talented players I've worked with. He's got everything that you need as a midfielder. He can run, he is very, very fast, he's powerful, he can score, he can assist, he can defend, he can take the ball - all he needs is opportunity. The way he's played when I've seen him play, he's been outstanding. He just needed to stay fit.”

Despite his injury and suspension, Jones has still made seven starts from nine appearances this season, including in the Premier League wins over Leicester City, Wolves and Crystal Palace. His red card against Aston Villa was the last time he played in the league, returning for their 5-1 win over Toulouse before more time on the sidelines.

Klopp has commented on Jones' injury status, saying: “Curtis had a hamstring [injury] last week. Not massive. After the international break he will be back, but not before. [It is a] low, low-grade hamstring. He was in good shape, [got a] red card, lack of rhythm, got the Europa League games and then in the game at Bournemouth he didn’t feel anything there when I took him off. Then I went in the dressing room and I think he felt a little bit the hamstring, so we made a scan. Very low grade, but it took him out.”

Despite struggling for consistency this season, Jones will no doubt come good at Anfield. With his 'outstanding' ability, he has all the tools to become a leading midfielder and will no doubt be a key part of the team in the future. With the right guidance and opportunity, Jones has all the potential to become a star at Liverpool.
