Nigeria Customs Service Intercepts Contrabands Worth N924m

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command has announced the interception of contrabands worth N924 million between August and October. This was revealed in a statement by the command's spokesperson, Mailafiya Magaji, on Friday.
The statement revealed that the command intercepted 17 sacks containing 1,199 parcels of cannabis sativa totaling 663.5kg. It also seized 66,000 capsules of 225mg tramadol and 1,257 bags of foreign parboiled rice with a duty paid value of N50 million. Additionally, it seized 3,750 liters of premium motor spirit during two separate operations in October.
The Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Odaudu Salefu, noted that the command seized 103 sacks containing 8,240 parcels of cannabis sativa in August which was promptly handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. He further stated that the cumulative value of the ten seizures conducted by the command from August to October amounted to N924 million.
Salefu urged the general public to respect and adhere to government fiscal policies, prohibitions, and restrictions. He said these measures are in place to safeguard national security, foster economic growth, and contribute to the overall progress of Nigeria.
The NCS Western Marine Command has been making significant efforts in the interception of contrabands. This has not only helped to reduce the rate of smuggling in the country but has also provided much-needed revenue to the government. It is hoped that the command will continue to make strides in this regard and further enhance the security of the nation.
