Paul Scholes Uploads His Favourite Ever Photo to Instagram - A Snap from the 2005 FA Cup Final
Key Highlights :
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes recently uploaded his favourite ever photo to Instagram, taken during the Red Devils' penalty shootout defeat to Arsenal in the 2005 FA Cup final. The ex-England midfielder captioned the photo with a self-deprecating joke, writing: "My favourite ever pic apart from being the only silly t*** to miss a pen."
The photo featured Scholes standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane and Gary Neville during the penalty shootout at the end of the FA Cup final. Although Scholes missed the only spot kick that day, it is little surprise that he was so fond of the photo despite the agonising circumstances in which it was taken.
The five players in the photo were part of the legendary Class of '92, and went on to make a whopping 3,679 appearances for United, scoring 780 goals. Together, they formed integral parts of the side that swept all before them in the Premier League, winning three league titles in a row between 2007 and 2009, and topping it off with a Champions League triumph in 2008.
Scholes himself played 718 times for United, scoring 155 goals from midfield. He won an incredible 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and two Champions Leagues during his stellar club career. He eventually hung up his boots in 2011 after 17 years at the club, but reversed his decision a year later and re-joined Sir Alex Ferguson's squad for a further season-and-a-half.
The photo uploaded by Scholes to Instagram serves as a reminder of the amazing success that the Class of '92 achieved during their time at Manchester United. It is a reminder of a time when the Red Devils were the undisputed kings of English football, and of the incredible legacy that Scholes and his teammates left behind.
