Pro-Life Movement Caught "Flat-Footed" by Abortion Rights Ballot Initiatives, Says Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
Key Highlights :
The pro-life movement has been dealt a major setback in this week’s state elections, with abortion-rights ballot initiatives catching them “flat-footed”, according to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. During the Republican presidential debate Wednesday night, Mr. DeSantis said that the pro-life movement must do a better job on these referenda.
Ohio voters approved a measure to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution on Tuesday, while Democrats in Virginia won control of both chambers of the state legislature in an election that their party made largely about protecting abortion rights.
In response to these events, Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina called on former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley and Mr. DeSantis to declare support for a 15-week federal abortion ban. Ms. Haley said that while she is pro-life, she does not judge anyone for being pro-choice. She also said that while she wishes some states weren't going more on the pro-choice side, the people have decided.
Mr. DeSantis said that he stands for a culture of life, and that “we’re better off when everybody counts”. Vivek Ramaswamy, another candidate, said that male promiscuity has been missing from the abortion debate.
It is clear that the pro-life movement has faced a major setback in this week's state elections, with abortion-rights ballot initiatives catching them “flat-footed”, as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said during the Republican presidential debate Wednesday night. While some are calling for a national ban on abortion at 15 weeks, Nikki Haley said that there are not enough votes in Congress in favor of such a ban. Vivek Ramaswamy also said that male promiscuity has been missing from the abortion debate. It is clear that the pro-life movement must do a better job on these referenda in order to protect their cause.
