Remembering Our Fallen Heroes: An Apology to Our Veterans
Key Highlights :
It is a heartbreaking reality that the number of people wearing poppies in the lead-up to Remembrance Day is dwindling year over year. As Canadians, we owe our freedom, liberties, and democracy in this country to the sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform. It is not too much to ask to spend a loonie or two in honour of their memory.
As our country experiences an ideological and moral crisis after the barbaric Hamas attack on Israel, many Canadians would like to apologize to our veterans for our Remembrance Day regression. The right to protest, free speech, and countless other freedoms we enjoy were paid for in full years ago, and it is our responsibility to remember and learn from history.
This Remembrance Day, we should be reminded of the brave family members who fought the Nazis, and of the innocent lives lost in the conflict. Deriving pleasure from the killing of unarmed civilians is not freedom fighting – it is genocide. Israel is not rejoicing the loss of innocent life in Gaza, but rather, it is an unfortunately byproduct of war.
On this Remembrance Day, let us take a moment to thank and honour the men and women of our Armed Forces and those of our allies who fought for our freedom and democratic values. Many of them survived conflict, and many did not. Let us be vigilant and never forget their sacrifices.
